Your personal information is being collected under the authority of The University of Manitoba Act. The information you provide will be used by the University to provide service and improve programs within our Learning Management System (LMS), UM Learn. UM Learn is a LMS based on the Desire2Learn software platform, and is hosted by the D2L Corporation.
UM Learn consists of the LMS, as well as added applications including:
The personal information you provide on the login page is used by the University to authenticate your identity through our secure system and provide access to UM Learn. Information that is collected within the UM Learn environment will be used by authorized University of Manitoba employees to provide course instruction and evaluations, to communicate with students, and to facilitate program improvements and accreditation.
The core learning management suite and key applications, excluding Video Note and Crowdmark, are stored on servers hosted within Canada by the D2L Corporation. The information stored for Video Note is stored on servers hosted outside Canada by D2L Corporation. The University of Manitoba has taken steps to ensure that its agreement with Desire2Learn is compliant with The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA). However, the University cannot and does not guarantee protection against the possible disclosure of your data, without limitation, in accordance with the laws of another Canadian jurisdiction or in accordance with the laws of a foreign jurisdiction.
UM Learn also has third party integrations that may collect data that is not stored on the servers hosted by D2L Corporation. The following third party integrations have been enabled in UM Learn and will collect the listed information if it is used in your course:
